Naissance d'une nation

Marie-Hélène Huet

Abstract

This article focuses on the symbolic role of Greece’s geography in its development as a nation. L’Archipel en feu follows the rugged coasts of disseminated islands, in search of national unity. This rarely-discussed novel should not be read only as a simple tale of piracy, but also as another vernian investigation of a geological unconscious, so to speak: in this case, the sunken continent that connects all the islands and unifies them.
